Zummo’s 2025 Graduates

Eduardo – Off to Temple University, August 2025

Eduardo joined Zummo in September 2022, arriving with a toolkit, a few tricks from customizing his SE bike, and a serious passion for bikes. A self-taught mechanic who consumed hundreds of YouTube tutorials, he quickly developed a knack for building custom rides that our customers love.

By fall 2024, Eduardo stepped up as our Service Manager. As a high school senior, he juggled a 4-day, 22-hour workweek through a co-op job—helping us keep operations running smoothly while mentoring the next wave of Zummo mechanics.

In 2025, he’ll play a key role in launching our new Bike Fleet Service Program in Avalon, NJ.

What Eduardo Learned (and Taught) at Zummo:

  • Navigating a shop filled with broken bikes, a mountain of tools, and every kind of personality.
  • Rebuilding and repairing donated bikes for resale or giveaway.
  • Communicating with everyone—from first-time customers to Zummo moms to local PhDs.
  • Fixing anything that rolls, drags, or stumbles into the shop.
  • Identifying exotic cars cruising past our Berwyn shop every Saturday.

What Eduardo Passed On to Younger Mechanics:

  • Problem-solving under pressure.
  • A can-do, figure-it-out attitude.
  • Organization and cleanup strategies.
  • How to anticipate problems before they happen.
  • Calming frustrated customers.
  • Bouncing back after setbacks
  • Delivering quality work.
  • Sharing knowledge with others.
  • Pricing bikes effectively.
  • Managing service and inventory as a 17-year-old.

Eduardo’s contributions—and the intellectual property he developed—have helped Zummo operate as a profitable 501(c)(3) in both 2023 and 2024. A game-changing, gritty, young leader for sure.

Elijah – Heading to RIT, August 2025

Elijah joined Zummo Bike during the COVID era of 2021 as an 8th grader with mechanical skills and a hunger to learn. Back then, Zummo focused only on donating bikes to kids who hit attendance and reading milestones. But Elijah saw something more.

After just a few weeks, he suggested, “Why don’t we sell some bikes and offer repairs so we can cover our costs?” That simple idea sparked a transformation.

With a passion for DIY bike repairs, a sharp mind, and a get-it-done mindset, Elijah:

  • Tapped into Bo’s and Joan’s expertise.
  • Recruited his friend John and mentored other young mechanics.
  • Led our first Phoenixville yard sale—selling 50 bikes and landing media coverage from CBS3’s Ukee Washington.

By fall 2021, two huge boosts propelled our momentum:

  1. Stacey Ballard, CEO of Eadeh Enterprises, donated retail space at 654 E. Lancaster Ave, Berwyn, PA.
  2. Mitch Rovins, longtime owner of Beacon Bicycles in NJ, gifted four trailers full of tools and parts after closing his shop.

With tools, space, and a team of teens and elementary schoolers, Elijah “quarterbacked” Zummo’s shift to a true community bike shop.

Under Elijah’s Leadership:

  • We became a place where customers buy refurbished bikes from youth sales staff.
  • Local kids gained hands-on mechanical training and people skills.
  • Our growing service business built a reputation for thorough, quality work.

As he prepares for RIT this fall, Elijah—along with Eduardo—will lead a “knowledge transfer” effort, mentoring the next generation of Zummo youth mechanics.

The legacy of Elijah and Eduardo is already shaping the future of Zummo Bike—and we can’t wait to see what’s next.
