Sometimes the best results at ZummoBike start with something pretty simple.
A sign in somebody’s front yard.
A few weeks ago, Baker, one of our senior mentors, had an idea. His neighborhood was holding its annual block party on Saturday, and he thought it might be a perfect place to introduce a few more people to ZummoBike and our neighborhood Bike Drives.
There was only one problem.
He needed a sign.
So on Friday night, Baker made the hour-plus round trip to New Jersey to pick up some new ZummoBike Drive signs that had been produced by Marc — our longtime sign guy, a 65-year friend of Steve's, someone who knows the bike business pretty darn well, and, most importantly around here, Levi's grandfather.
The next morning, Baker put that sign in a prominent spot at the block party.
Then he let it do its job.
A couple of weeks went by.
And at about 3:30 this afternoon, Baker came walking into ZummoBike with three of the finest cared-for bicycles you could ever hope to see. Absolutely magnificent bikes.
But that wasn't all.
Baker told us the neighbor across the street has another three or four bicycles for us.
Another neighbor down the street has two more.
And we're probably just getting started.
That's not luck.
That's results.
And behind those results are two people who decided to do a little more than was required.
Marc made sure we had professional signs that could represent ZummoBike well in the community.
Baker gave up part of his Friday night to go get them — because he saw an opportunity the next morning and wanted to make something happen.
One sign.
One block party.
Three beautiful bikes already through the door.
Five or six more potentially coming.
And every one of those bicycles becomes another opportunity for a young person at ZummoBike to learn mechanics, customer service, sales, leadership and responsibility.
Bikes are just the beginning.
Want to help?
Consider hosting a ZummoBike Drive sign in your yard for just two weeks.
We'll bring it to you.
We'll install it.
And two weeks later, we'll promptly come back and pick it up.
You might be surprised by how many bicycles are sitting quietly in garages right in your neighborhood — waiting for their next chapter.
One yard. One sign. Two weeks. Who knows what it might start?
